The Story
Hello! My Name is Marcas McEwan and I am a Permie.
(Yes, that is a real thing. No it does not mean I forgot to shower, but after a long day of planting trees all bets are off.)
For more than a decade, I worked as a field surveyor across western Canada. I worked on dams, gas plants, wellsites, pipelines, powerlines, substations, utlilities, subdivisions, roads, homes, condos and apartments. I have read tens of thousands of engineering drawings in my life and relayed the location of that information to the crews building it on site. I learned firsthand how essential good design and good drawings are to completing a project, without it becoming an expensive headache for all of those involved.
But throughout my career I kept noticing something that bothered me. The structures and systems we were building were rarely designed to work with the land or even the people required to run those systems. We were often treating the landscape as an obstacle to conquer, clear, level and build, rather than as something to understand and work with.
That is why I founded Sacred Sections: To design and build better habitats for humans and all living things.
The land, water, food, energy, shelter and natural systems should support one another- creating spaces that are productive, resilient and deeply connected to its surroundings.
We bring these pieces together through thoughtful site planning, ecological design and practical systems engineering. We study the land, identify its opportunities and constraints, and develop clear plans that turn a vision into something that can be easily built.
